Analysis
In this interview Ryan Coogler, the director for Black Panther, talks about how the
Black Panther Album came to be, saying that
Kendrick Lamar was initially only going to do a few albums but after seeing some of the movie he decided to do the full thing."At first, he was just going to do a few songs for the film, and then he came in and watched quite a bit of the movie, and the next thing I know, they were booking a studio and they were going at it.""Sounwave says that 50% of the album was already thought of during the DAMN tour so when they came back to work on the album it was mostly about execution. Sounwave also says that he's happy Marvel is using hip-hop for the sound and allowing TDE full creative control."The movie's not set in 1910, or the 1960s when Black Panther first came out — it's set in today. There's 'today' moments happening in the movie, so we want the whole soundtrack to sound like that too."*There may be errors on this page.
